The setup (obviously) can make or break a performance.Īlso, someone mentioned vinyl thickness. It is a fairly tough record to reproduce well at higher listening levels.there is a lot going on. The regular MFSL, however, is right here with it.the extra detail is truly incremental, not mind-blowing. There is a stunning about of detail there.
You can play it loud or soft, it's just amazing, and it holds up. The UHQR is by far my favorite, and is one of my ultimate treats to play on my rig (its in my profile). I also have the MFSL Gold Disc, a regular early US pressing, and a UHQR. It is the older version, with the stand up lettering, It sounded amazing to my early teen ears then, played back on my dad's rig (Yamaha A-1 Integrated, Sony PS-X50 TT, Dynavector MC, McIntosh XR6 speakers). I bought an MFSL of Dark Side when it just went out of print, probably around 1984 or so. It's amazing that we have any agreement on what we hear.
Ever just slightly move your ear while listening and hear how the sound changes with the smallest touch? Then you get into the differences in rooms, equipment, and tastes. There really are so many variables to how we hear things, starting with the "hardware" of your ear.
